Art Direction + Illustration + Copy

One key cultural insight we uncovered through research and interviews was a Sri Lankan proverb: "Family disputes only last until the rice is cooked." This proverb reflects how women’s emotions are often dismissed, making emotional abuse an unrecognized issue in many communities.
Key elements included:
- Illustrations to make the book engaging while reinforcing key messages.
- Typography and layout that balance warmth with clarity.
- Recipes intertwined with metaphorical recipes to subtly introduce discussions on emotional abuse.

This illustrated cookbook includes real recipes with metaphorical "recipes" that represent different types of emotional abuse. The book's structure is designed to avoid raising suspicion, with some of the pages being kept entirely neutral, featuring simple, comforting recipes. While the awareness content is gently interwoven throughout, offering insight and recognition to those experiencing emotional abuse.
This balance creates a safe space where readers, particularly those who may be in such relationships, can identify unhealthy patterns without feeling exposed. The goal is not only to educate but also to affirm the reader’s feelings, validate their experiences, and plant the quiet seed of self-awareness and strength.
